ARRAN

As previously shown (top) and now with an additional photo, still hard to believe the recorded origins of this coaster!

1944, 500gt

She is recorded as having been built as one of the Landing Craft Tank (3) class at Glasgow.

(from Lenton & Colledge, 'Warships of World War II' she seems likely to be one of

LCT(3) 7006-7013, 7018-7033 or 7118-7121 by Redpath, Brown

LCT(3) 7014-7017 or 7122-7125 by Sir William Arrol)

And thanks to Graham Moore for this info ....

In De Boer and Gorter's book " Standard Ships 1939-1945 in the Dutch and Belgian Merchant Fleet",

it states that she was built at Redpath, Brown & Co. as LCT (3) (R) 460.

1950 rebuilt by Scheeps. Welgelegen, Harlingen as ARRAN for M. Cremer of Groningen

1968 VULCAN, Panama and rebuilt as a survey ship

Sank off Port Gentil, Gabon on 2/4/1976

... and Fokke Sytema sent this photo of two LCT's lying near the Welgelegen shipyard,

undated but perhaps it could have been one of these which became the ARRAN!
